Hygiene is the practice of maintaining a good health and to prevent from any disease by just cleanliness. Hand hygiene is another way of saying hand washing. Hand Hygiene is an action of people cleaning their hands to remove germs or other substances in their hands. There is five steps on how to properly wash your hands to prevent the germs from spreading. First step is to wet your hands with clean water, it could be cold or warm water. Then turn off the tap and add soap into your hands. Second step is to rub your hands together with the soap. You have to wash the back of your hands, between your fingers, and under your fingernails as well. Third step is that you should scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Fourth step is that you rinse your hands well with water. Final step, you are now ready to dry your hands with a clean towel or a paper towel. Although there is many people that often miss on washing their fingertips and their thumbs, so make sure you do wash those areas. According to "today.com" they state that "using antibacterial soap will encourage drug-resistant bacteria to develop more." In other words, any type of soap (regular soap) can be really helpful to prevent any bacteria or viruses on your hands.
Additionally, the CDC is the "Centers for Disease Control and Prevention" and they are a leading national public health institution of the U.S. They are located in Atlanta, Georgia under the Department of Health and Human Services. When you feel or know that you are not near or don't have access to soap and water, then that is when you have to actually use hand sanitizer. If you want to use hand sanitizers, you should probably know how to properly use one. Some proper ways are by applying the hand sanitizer onto your palm of one hand. Rub your hands hands together until it is all over your hands and keep rubbing until it slowly dries. This should only take you about 20 seconds to rub in order for it to be effective. Your hand sanitizer should at least have 60% of alcohol or more to kill the virus. However, the CDC would still recommend for everyone to keep washing their hands with soap and water, since it reduces the germs of your hands more than the hand sanitizer. Last but not least, you should keep your hand sanitizers away from young children since they are more capable of putting it into their mouth and probably swallow it. If they swallow it, then they are most likely to get alcohol poisoning. If a young child wants to get hand sanitizer, their parent or guardian should be present with them and give them or they can just supervise them while they apply it to themselves.
Overall, it is important for me to wash my hands now versus a month ago because since their is a contagious virus out there, we have to be precaution since we could probably get the virus by just touching objects other people touched. We don't know if that person was sick or probably sneezed and coughed on the objects you touch. For this reason, it is important to always wash your hands in order to prevent an infection. The amount of times I touch my face in a day, I think of how much bacteria it has and just the thought of it makes me feel disgusted and immediately go to wash my face. To be honest, I only wash my hands for at least four times in a day. I actually started to sing the ABC's twice now while I wash my hands. During this time, I am more careful now about the things I touch when I'm in public. When I'm not in my house, I try to keep my hands clean by avoiding touching things, or I just clean my hands again with a disinfectant wipe my mom has in her car and then apply hand sanitizer twice to feel clean.
This is a video of me explaining How to wash your hands properly due to the CDC.
